Utica, NY- May 2005

Utica is only about 30 minutes from Little Falls, so we decided to go check out some of its highlights. First, we stopped at the Utica Hotel, which is listed with the Historic Hotels of America. It was built in 1912, and has had President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Hopalong Cassidy, Mae West and Bobby Darin as guests. Next, we stopped at the Utica Library which has on display "General Herkimer", by Frederick Yohn. This painting was the inspiration for a painting by Tom Prestopnik, which we included below in our pictures. See if you can tell which one is the original.

After leaving the library we walked across the street to the Munson-Williams-Proctor Institute. We had about 45 minutes in the gallery before we had to hurry to the tour at the Matt Brewing Company, where you can buy Utica Club, the first beer licensed for sale at the end of prohibition. Unfortunately, when we got to the brewery we found out that they were not doing any tours that weekend because of Memorial Day.
